Dental Caries
Everybody knows this term, of course, and knows that it describes a problem that can do a lot of damage to the teeth and be very painful. Just like periodontitis, caries is caused by bacteria.
The germs gather in the oral cavity and are deposited in the form of bacterial plaque on the tooth enamel, preferably between the teeth. These plaques gradually cause fissures in the enamel of the tooth, go deeper into the tooth and result in cavities.
What do we do to protect you from caries?
An intensive oral hygiene program that includes the daily cleaning of the spaces between the teeth is of particular importance. We carry out such intensive cleanings within the scope of the oral wellness programme and caries prophylaxis and explain to you how you can take care of dental hygiene at home.
There are some simple nutrition tips that you can heed right away: Avoid food and drinks containing a lot of acids or sugars. They attack the enamel and facilitate the intrusion of bacteria. If we find spots suspected to be affected by caries, we use different treatment strategies depending on the degree of decay. Damaged areas will be rehabilitated.
Then we use a special small tool to remove the softened caries plaques simply and painlessly. In doing this, we will spare the healthy areas of the tooth. This therapy is particularly suitable for the treatment of children, because it saves them the fear of the drill.
In some cases, however, will still have to use this instrument. But often we can restrict the drilling to the less sensitive areas and go about it so carefully that you do not suffer undue discomfort.
